Generations of Experience
Our leadership’s collective experience simply can’t be beat by big box stores. A family business for decades, Capitol Door & Window knows all about doors, windows, hardware, and moulding.
Capitol Door & Window began in April 1975 as a partnership between Loren Hosmer and Albert Abraham. Originally named A&H Distributing, the location was a small storage shed behind the SE storefronts on Crows Landing and Hatch Roads in Ceres, California. In October 1976 the business moved to a building on Hatch Road one-half mile west of the original shop. In 1978, the partnership was dissolved, and Loren Hosmer moved the remaining assets to Bunker Ave. in Modesto. At that time, the name ‘Capitol Door Sales’ was adopted. The company moved to the current site, 701 Latimer Ave. in Modesto, in January 1980.

owners had been contemplating retirement. Then Covid hit, and the decision was made to sell. In 2020, Capitol Door Sales was acquired by Domus Building Products, which is operated by the Opper Foundation, during the pandemic stage.
The name was updated to Capitol Door & Window to reflect current market strategies. With that, many changes were needed to overcome the departure of seasoned staff, the severe lack of material supply, the increase of vendor errors, and the lack of qualified staff due to the pandemic. For over 2 years, the company has gone through massive technological upgrades, advances in software estimating, invested deeply into CNC machining (Computer Numeric Control) with a tripled amount of inventory, the adoption of strict BHMA Door Standards, an upgrade of professionally trained staff, and battling extreme price increases.
Progress is still being made; CNC machines are still coming in, updates are being made to inventory as new styles and trends emerge, upgrades to the showroom are planned, and increases in product development are being made. One of which is our new ReadyMade door program. Quality custom doors with real pine frames in a secure wrap are being designed. Once the new storage facility is finalized, we will have over 500 ReadyMade pre-hung doors in multiple styles and sizes to choose from, available that day for pickup, with delivery and installation available.
