Custom Fit, Custom Match Doors

Capitol Door & Window features one of the largest Door Match-Up manufacturing facilities in the Central Valley and can custom fit a new door to fit your existing frame. We are one of the few facilities in Northern California that offer BBR. (Bevel Bore Route). Our Modesto plant is home to a long tradition of craftsmanship, providing the homeowner with a quality “match door”. The design of your home is what gives it character and appeal. When updating your interior or exterior doors, you should choose doors that preserve your home’s unique style and personality.

Of course, this is easier said than done, and know that Capitol Door & Window is only a phone call away, (209) 522-3539. Capitol Door & Window would like to stress the importance of having exact measurements for the correct fit. The hinge pocket must be within 1/64” (about the thickness of a business card) for it to fit properly, and the hinges should be replaced.

Our Process- The Standard Match Up

Cutting your new door(s) to size; Mortising for hinges; drilling for standard locksets, and routing for the strike. Other options include mortise locks, mail slots, inserts, view holes, pet doors, re-rails, and re-stiles. A Match-Up can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 24 hours depending on added features. Follow these guidelines to help us provide you with the best service possible. For the best-guaranteed results, we can come out and do a field measurement, machine your new door, and then deliver and install your new door. 95% of any issues with Match-Up door replacement is with the installer and measurement of the door. If you want to do it yourself, you can bring in your existing door(s) with your scheduled appointment. From there you can pick your replacement doors and we can get the measurements. Then you can put your old doors back on and we can schedule the shop once your new doors come in. Please note that even if the measurements are correct and the machining is correct it can still be difficult to attach them. It is always best to use a licensed contractor for the replacement service. In lieu of bringing your existing door(s) in, you can print our Match-Up sheet to record your required dimensions.

Helping to Make Your Match Door Perfect!

  • All measurements are from the top of the door, hinge side, and non-beveled side.
  • Measure the Height, Width, and Thickness of the existing door(s) to within 1/16”
  • Complete the Match-Up sheet as best you can and bring the completed sheet into our store to schedule a Match-Up Service.
  • If you have multiple doors, label or number them before removing them.
  • Inspect the fit of each door.
  • Select your new door(s) and make a deposit to schedule your Match-Up appointment.
  • Remove all hardware from your old door(s) (locks, hooks, knockers). Locks will not be installed by us, but we do drill the same holes as in the existing door.
  • Leave the old door(s) with us for the Match-Up. Be prepared to tell us if they are functioning
  • properly (rubbing, sagging, large gaps, etc.). The Match-Up is most accurate if we have the old door(s) here, rather than using measurements on paper.
  • If you intend to replace your locks, select them prior to your appointment day. If you have an interlocking weather strip, you should discuss options for replacement with a salesperson beforehand.
  • Once the Match-Up is complete, take the new and old door(s) home so you can assure the fit of the new door. Always fit your new door BEFORE you finish the door. Our guarantee never covers paint or installation as many things can cause a door not to fit properly.
  • Match-Ups may not be perfect the first time. Your new door may need to be brought back to Capitol Door & Window for adjustments – because the work is not being done at the site, test fitting is very important!
  • Capitol Door & Window can recommend changes to doors with interlocking weather stripping. The hardware on your old door can be removed and returned. It is best to replace the hardware with new, and install after a proper fit and paint.
